Letters From Strangers

A while ago (when I still used StumbleUpon), I stumbled upon this one site that seemed to awesome to me. It's called Letters From Strangers. I don't know how she came up with this idea, but it struck a chord with me, and I absolutely love it. It's a fantastic idea, and I sent in a few letters. After a month or so with nothing back, the site slipped from my mind. Then one day almost a year later, I received a letter in the mail from a strange address. I flipped it over, and on the back was the link to the website. I immediately got very excited, and I opened the letter. Inside was a quote I had heard hundreds of times, but never paid any attention to. It was good advice, but I never took it to heart. Not until I read that letter. Seeing that quote in print, written by a stranger, and being in kind of a hard place anyway totally opened my eyes. I took the advice to heart. It's amazing what just a letter of encouragement will do to a hungry soul. So I sent in another letter. Since it took so long to get one back, I'm not expecting replies any time soon, but I know it'll be an awesome experience when I do get another one back.

I decided to check the site again today. I hadn't been there in a few weeks, and wanted to see the new letters. When I scrolled down a little bit, I saw this. I drew that picture and wrote that letter over a year ago. Seeing it on the site, however, totally made my day. I had forgotten about it, but it makes me happy to see it again.

  1. I found this post through my blog's stats, and I just wanted to say that I'm sorry for taking so long with your response! I received hundreds of letters while I was in college and very, very busy. I kept them all neatly tucked away, and have been sorting through them and matching them up. Thank you for linking to my project, and I'm really glad that the letter you got helped you out when you were going through some hard times.
